    The application for permanent residency in Canada is split into two stages: regional and federal. A person who intends to immigrate to Canada must apply through one of the Quebec immigration programs. They must apply to the Government of Canada for permanent residency after being selected by Quebec authorities and receiving their Quebec Selection Certificate. You will be granted a permanent resident visa if your application is approved.

     

    An investment agreement for C$1,200,000 over 5 years must be signed with an approved financial intermediary. A cap on the number of signed agreements exists. The investment is backed by the Quebec government. Brokers and trust companies provide applicants with financing possibilities.

     

    The Federal Immigrant Investor/Entrepreneur Programs used to be active, however they were recently shut down. Other regional immigration programs for entrepreneurs include the Quebec Investor, Quebec Entrepreneur, and Quebec Self-Employed Worker programs

    Investor Immigration Program in Canada

    The application for permanent residency in Canada is split into two stages: regional and federal. A person who intends to immigrate to Canada must apply through one of the Quebec immigration programs. 

     

    They must apply to the Government of Canada for permanent residency after being selected by Quebec authorities and receiving their Quebec Selection Certificate. You will be granted a permanent resident visa if your application is approved.

    The following are the government's criteria for selection:

    • You must show that you have relevant business experience, as defined by the rules. In other words, you must have managed or operated an eligible firm for at least two of the previous five years prior to your application
    • You and your spouse must have amassed a personal net worth of at least CAD 2 million legitimately.
    • Citizenship is transferable to new spouses and further family
    • Under one of the two available immigrant investor programs, you must invest CAD 1.2 million for a five-year term at no interest (0%). The investment is insured by the government and will be fully reimbursed at the end of the investment period.
    • The medical and security exams in Canada must be completed and passed by the entire family.
    • A points-based system will also be used to analyze your age, language, education, experience, and time spent in Quebec.

    Procedures and time frame

    To apply for citizenship in Canada, you must have been a permanent resident for five years and have spent at least 1,095 days, or three years, in the country prior to submitting your citizenship application. You don’t have to give up your current citizenship because Canada allows dual citizenship.

    Note: On March 31, 2021, the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program was extended by the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation, and Integration. The program will not resume until April 1, 2023.
